D DAY: June 6th, 2009 River Of Hearts Sorting Party

ROH would like to confer a courtesy bow to Santa Fe Relocation Company that has associated with our Charity time after time. We couldn’t do it without them. They sent 4 trucks on a short notice during the Friday “freak storm” and didn’t stop loading until they met each one of our wonderful drop-off locations’ volunteers in Puxi and in Pudong. Miss Moira -our liaison with YCIS- and 6 “X-ayis” helped to unload the trucks  at the YewChung International School and took care of all the details for D Day, June 6th event so that everything runs smoothly.

ROH would like to single out each and every one of you who took the time to come to the June Sorting Party and make it a success. Because of your hard work, 180 dedicated volunteers were able to sort, label, pack, clean, sell and buy at the BAM “Buy A Mile” bazaar and send 338 bags and 114 boxes to Xuzhou in Jiangsu Province. In addition, one 15 foot CROWNRELO container truck (150 bags) sponsored by ANZ Bank has arrived at Chengdu, Sichuan Province. These goods were then unloaded and reloaded on another truck that went to MianYang.  CrownRelo Logistics Company coordinated the transfer of goods on smaller trucks that continued to Yanjia Middle School, which is 15 km south of Mianyang. Mr. Tian, the Principal, and 335 children waited eagerly for 10 days to receive the promised clothing as well as 335 schoolbags complete with supplies carefully selected by ANZ bank volunteers.  Previously, ANZ had contributed to the construction of a classroom for the school. In the meantime, a van has left for Anhui with beddings items meant for an orphanage in Yinshan, Anhui. Young migrant students became the recipients of your hard work and borrowed a pickup truck to pack a truckload of clothes, shoes, offices items, a set of kitchen toy furniture and much more. All in all, 130 Cubic Meter of surplus clothes, small furniture, toys and miscellaneous items were sent to 4 different locations. Bravo.

On the food side, we’re sure you appreciated the efforts of Cherry at the CCS Pudong Center who contacted Mr. Zhang, who in turn responded wholeheartedly to our endeavor and set in motion his whole staff and the resources of his Chinese restaurant to provide 180 lunch boxes. Please take the time to visit his restaurant San Xian Ge on Meihua Road 1017 if you are looking for excellent food and service.

We hope you enjoyed the work and had fun at the bazaar which help ROH to cover the cost of shipping. We are looking forward to working alongside you during the next Sorting Party: which will be held in Puxi in Mid-October. In the meantime, we might have more collateral ROH events during the summer months. So make sure to visit our websites at the following links.

Please feel free to write and send some reactions to the Sorting party so that we may place them on the ROH website.
